Day 10 of the 1100+ KM Mission Organic Kashmir journey focused on the transformative impacts of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) in Pulwama. This vibrant district showcased progressive farming models, organic innovations, and government-supported initiatives to revolutionize the region’s agriculture.
🪱 Vermicomposting Innovation at Newa
Location: Banagund, Newa, Pulwama
Visited the vermicompost unit of Shri Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a progressive farmer, with Dr. Shoukat A. Rather, AEO (Newa). Shri Bhat’s efforts in producing high-quality organic compost under the HADP scheme set an example for sustainable soil health management.
🥬 Vegetable Cultivation on a Grand Scale
Location: Farm of Shri Javed Ji, Pulwama
- Farm Size: 400 kanals
- HADP Benefit: Received a 95% subsidy (₹1.90 lakh) for constructing a polyhouse.
- Recent Achievements:
- Harvested green coriander with an input cost of ₹1,000 and earned ₹40,000 in 30 days.
- Currently planting garlic for the March-April crop.
This visit highlighted the financial viability and quick returns from polyhouse farming supported by HADP.
🌸 Organic Saffron Clusters in Pampore
Location: Pampore, Pulwama
Visited the famed saffron fields with:
- Shri Shakeel Ahmad Ji, SDAO Kakpora.
- Shri Ishtiaq Ji, AEO Noorpora Pampore.
Key Highlights:
- Tour of 10 organic saffron clusters (20 hectares each), a part of the Organic Saffron Mission.
- Total area under cultivation: 200 hectares.
This initiative, led by Shri Ishtiaq Ji and his team, underscores the region’s commitment to reviving and sustaining its iconic saffron heritage through organic practices.
🌿 Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) Excellence
Location: Farm of Shri Gulbadin Ahmad Mir, Pulwama
Shri Gulbadin’s farm is a model for diversified and sustainable agriculture, integrating:
- Vegetables, horticulture, dairy, poultry, fisheries, goat farming, and vermicomposting.
- Unique Feature: Irrigation with pure glacier water from mountain streams.
HADP Support:
- 100% subsidy for 10 vermicompost beds (₹7 lakh).
His achievements make him a brand ambassador for organic farming in Kashmir and across India.
🍅 High-Tech Polyhouse for Exotic Crops
Location: Farm of Shri Farooq Ahmad Ganaie Ji, Pulwama
Specializing in exotic vegetables, leafy greens, and off-season crops, Shri Ganaie’s high-tech polyhouse is a shining example of how modern agricultural practices are thriving under the HADP scheme.
