Day 8 of the 1100+ KM Mission Organic Kashmir was a remarkable blend of discussions, farmer interactions, and visits to innovative agricultural setups under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP). The day highlighted how government support is driving transformative changes in Kashmir’s farming landscape.
🌱 Morning Meeting with Horticulture Development Officer
The day began with a productive meeting with Mr. Sajed Hussain Ji, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO) of Sub-Division Sumbhal, District Bandipora, Kashmir.
Discussion Highlights:
- Explored the benefits of the HADP Scheme in the Sumbhal Sub-Division.
- Discussed strategies for increasing farmer participation and maximizing scheme benefits.
🌳 HADP Farmers’ Field Visit: High-Density Apple Orchard
Our next stop was the field of Shri Ghulam Murtaza Malik, a progressive farmer from Sumbhal.
Key Details:
- Project: High-density apple crop structure and plantation.
- Total Project Cost: Approx. ₹20 lakh.
- Subsidy Support: Around 80% (₹16 lakh) under the HADP scheme.
- This initiative demonstrates how modern infrastructure and government support are revolutionizing traditional farming practices.
🌟 Mother Block Visit: High-Density Apple Block
We then visited a 12-canal high-density apple block owned by Shri Mohd. Muzaffer Shah Ji and his brother.
Key Details:
- Farm Details: Each brother manages 6 canals of apple orchards.
- Total Project Cost: ₹24 lakh for the 12 canals.
- Subsidy Support: 80% under HADP 2023-24, ensuring affordability and enhanced yield.
This innovative approach to horticulture underscores the region’s shift toward sustainable, high-yield farming practices.
🌐 Visit to ICAR-CITH Srinagar
As part of our ongoing promotional activities, we visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) in Srinagar.
Interaction Highlights:
- Met with key leaders, including:
- Dr. M.K. Verma, Director.
- Dr. Javid Iqbal Mir, Principal Scientist and Incharge (PME).
- Dr. Wasim Hassan Raja, Senior Scientist and Nodal Officer for NEH.
- The Head of KVK Baramulla and other ICAR-CITH staff.
- Discussed the role of ICAR-CITH in driving innovation and research in horticulture across temperate regions.
This visit highlighted the critical role research institutions play in advancing agricultural practices and supporting local farmers.
