As part of the 1,100 km Mission Horticulture Journey to promote HADP, MIDH, and other horticulture schemes, today’s journey took us to two incredible locations: Block Keerian in Kathua District and Bani.
Visit 1: Block Keerian, Kathua District
Meeting Progressive Farmer Vevaik Puri Ji
In Block Keerian, we met Shri Vevaik Puri ji, a progressive farmer from Chak Devian, Kathua. Shri Puri has embraced multiple horticulture schemes, creating a model for innovation in agriculture.
- Key Initiatives:
- Mix-fruit orchards with Dragon Fruit, Guava, and Mango.
- Drip irrigation systems for sustainable water use.
- Protected cultivation structures under the HADP scheme, provided by the Chief Horticulture Office, Kathua.
Highlights:
The mix-fruit orchard demonstrated the incredible potential for diversified farming. The taste of Dragon Fruit and Guava was truly exceptional, showcasing the success of these advanced practices.

In the scenic region of Bani, we visited the field of Shri Kartar Singh ji, a progressive farmer implementing ultra-high-density apple plantation practices.

- Area: 2 Kanals
- Scheme: Ultra High-Density Plantation of Apple under the HADP Scheme.
- Guidance provided by Shri Shabir Ahmed Ji, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Bani.
Potential for Growth:
The visit highlighted the huge potential for apple production in Bani, given the favorable climatic conditions and strategic guidance provided by the horticulture department.
