The vibrant agricultural scene in Jammu & Kashmir came alive during the Kisan Mela 2024-25 and the National Agriculture Conclave & Farmers Fair 2024. It was an honor to explore these events with Shri. Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal Ji, Director of Agriculture, Kashmir, and interact with key stakeholders, young enthusiasts, and innovators contributing to the agricultural economy of India.
Stop 1: Kisan Mela 2024-25, District Ganderbal
The Kisan Mela in Ganderbal was a showcase of innovation, traditional practices, and government support for sustainable farming. Accompanied by Director Agriculture, Shri. Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal Ji, we witnessed firsthand the progress in crop production, horticulture, and organic farming under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).

Young apiculture enthusiasts at the National Agriculture Meet shared profound insights into bee farming and its pivotal role in sustainable agriculture. Their enthusiasm underscored the growing interest in apiculture, a key sector for boosting agricultural yields and promoting biodiversity.
Stop 3: Exploring Sericulture Advancements
Meeting Dr. Kamlesh Bali, Professor at SKUAST-Jammu’s Division of Sericulture, highlighted innovative techniques in cocoon value addition. Sericulture, with its potential for high returns, presents a lucrative opportunity for farmers to diversify their income streams while conserving the environment.
Stop 4: Insights from the Horticulture Department
The Horticulture Department stall at the National Agriculture Conclave showcased innovative approaches to fruit and vegetable cultivation. Interacting with Shri. Satish Kumar and Shri. Sandeep Ji provided valuable insights into the importance of horticulture for the region’s economy.
Stop 5: Promoting HADP with Esteemed Leaders
During the HADP promotion bicycle journey in Kashmir, meeting notable figures like MP Rajya Sabha Er. Gulam Ali Khatana Ji and SKUAST-J Vice-Chancellor Dr. B.N. Tripathi Ji was inspiring. Their dedication to agricultural development reinforces the importance of Mission Organic Kashmir.
Stop 6: Krishi Vigyan Kendra – A Hub of Innovation
At the KVK-Jammu stall, Dr. Punit Choudhary and his team showcased cutting-edge demonstrations in agricultural practices. Their efforts in capacity-building and farmer education are commendable.
